GirlCrew: Think you’re too old to make new friends? Think again

Meet like-minded women for mate dates

Lauren Tracey

Is your best mate working weekends? Does your sister have less time for cocktail-making classes now that she’s a mum? Have your posse moved to Oz in search of work? If life has left you at a loose end in terms of people to socialise with, a new venture could provide you with a gal pal who shares your interests.

GirlCrew already boasts over 3,000 members. It works like this: you visit their website, find your county group and apply to join via Facebook. Once you’re in, you can get regular updates on what your GirlCrew mates are up to and the events they’re organising.

“I think people find themselves in need of friends at all different stages of their lives.” founder Elva Carri told HerFamily.ie.

“At times in our lives we’re naturally presented with a big group of people we may become close friends with. Then there are big phases where it’s not as easy,”

You can find GirlCrew groups everywhere from Cork to New York, with subgroups for mothers, including DublinMums, also gaining in popularity.

“They might want to help each other out with finding good babysitters, or figuring out schools and creches or play dates.” says Elva. “If there’s one thing I know about GirlCrew, it’s that you never really know what the girls will decide to use it for. And that’s the beauty of it.”
