Night-time antics: Should your kids share a bedroom?

Is it a good idea?

Night-time antics: Should your kids share a bedroom?

Our family is at that stage where our second child is about to make the transition from baby cot to big girl bed.

We’ve held out for as long as possible but she has started to want to take her daytime naps in a bed as opposed to her cot, and can be found most mornings snuggled in under her dad’s armpit.

(She loves her comfort and cuddles, just like her big brother still does too!)

In fact, as we are currently living with my parents while we have some work done on our house (yes, STILL), the kids have somewhat become very used to sleeping alongside us.

So what will happen when we move back home?

Well, we have two bedrooms to play with – one box room that was Jacob’s bedroom and one spare room that had been a home office.

The spare room is a little bit bigger and we could realistically fit two beds in there and let the kids share a room. They’d be great company for each other then, right?

I posed the question online earlier today and here are some of the responses I received:

“Excellent idea they will grow up and want there own space in time but lovely to share and sure if it doesn’t work out you’ve tried it out” – Karen, Kildare

“The girls have always shared a room and aside from the occasional fight in the last year as they get older they seem to love it (which is good because it will always be a necessity in our house!!)” – Kate, US

“Totally share! They might even stay in bed longer on the weekend mornings. Mine shared until they were ten & eight & were great pals and playmates” – Olive, Wicklow

“Oscar and Lucie have been sharing a room for the past few months, both sleeping better than ever! Young kids love company. I highly recommend it!” – Joanne, Meath

“My boys love sharing – couldn’t separate them now. When sonny was in hospital for a night Seimi couldn’t sleep without him. I thinks it’s great for them – they have lovely little chats and giggles before they nod off” – Emily, Dublin
