This ultra-cosy new duvet is designed to feel like a big hug

Tis the season to hibernate under a blanket.

We can’t wait to get our hands on one of these.

John Fiorentino, the New York entrepreneur behind Gravity blanket was stunned last week when his Kickstarter campaign to raise $21,500 ended up scoring him a whopping $3.5 million from more than 17,000 backers.

The prize? Gravity is a premium-grade, therapeutic weighted blanket that harnesses the power of deep touch stimulation to gently distribute deep pressure across your body.

Engineered to be around 10 percent of your body weight, it helps relax the nervous system by simulating the feeling of being held or hugged.

According to its makers, the feeling increases serotonin and melatonin levels and decreases cortisol levels—improving your mood and promoting restful sleep at the same time.

Bliss.

Because weighted blankets should be around 10 percent of your body weight, the company offers 15, 20, and 25 pound options, all finished in plus micro-fleece for the ultimate in cosy.

Early birds who backed the Kickstarter campaign nabbed themselves a Gravity blanket for just $169 (€154). The regular retail price will be $279 (€254).

The company expects to begin filling orders by October; just in time for hygge season.
