You can't remember the last time you had an uninterrupted snooze. When you finally do end up in the land of nod, it's time to wake up again way too soon. Wouldn't it be so lovely to roll over and fall back to sleep?
Then, there's the wake up call. A pair of little hands mauling your face? The shrill of an alarm clock you're hoping won't wake up the rest of the house until you're at least out of the shower. Whatever your walk-up call, it's never easy, so here are five super-effective ways to ease the toughest part of the day.
Tactical placing of your alarm
You've set your alarm, now it's going off. Your sleepier side doesn't see the need to get up at all. Cue press snooze button. Ten minutes later, it's going off again. In your mind you've already decided to not wash your hair today just to give yourself an extra few minutes in bed. Snooze button goes off again. To avoid the instinctive pressing of the snoozing button, put it on the other side of the room. The jolt to your system will get you out of bed, at least in the hope you'll be awake enough to stay there.
Resist that pre-bedtime caffeine hit
Did you know caffeine stays in your system for up to twelve hours? A cup of coffee and even some tea anywhere near your bedtime is going to wreak havoc on your sleeping pattern, making early morning rising even harder than usual.
Keep H20 in plentiful supply
Pop a glass of water on your bedside table. This may seem simplistic, but trust us, once you've knocked back a full glass of water the minute you wake, it has magical wakey-wakey powers.
Pimp up your smartphone with some cool apps
There are so many apps on the market that make very effective alarms. We love the Math Alarm app, which makes you do your sums before you turn the clock off in the morning. Sounds kind of torturous, we know, but it works.
Pre-record a morning greeting
Nothing wakes you up more than the sound of your own voice. Get creative with the voice recorder on your phone and list the tasks you need to accomplish that day. This is annoying enough to wake you up properly, although you might end up on the 'wrong side of the bed' all day.
