Well, that's exactly what one mother did, toning down the bright colours of her toddler's toy leaving social media users divided.
The TikToker, Nattie, seemed to be aware that her choice would upset some people who came across it as she opened her video by saying: "Call me crazy or a sad beige mom for what I’m about to do."
She continued: "I can already hear you thinking that I’m going to ruin my toddler’s Christmas by painting over these colours but let’s be real, my toddler’s toys are brown cardboard boxes and clear plastic water bottles so I really think she is a neutral girlie at heart."

At the start of Nattie's project, the plastic Christmas tree was bright green with a yellow star and multicoloured baubles.
The mother went on to show the array of spray paints she bought to bring her neutral dream to life.
In the end, the tree was transformed from vibrant colours to cool toned shades of brown and dark green, miles away from its previous form.
Many parents voiced their concerns about the TikToker's decision, noting that bright colours are important for kid's development.
"I am a sad beige mom at heart but still try my best to mix colors with my aesthetic because this is too far," one individual commented.

Another penned: "As a psych student who is in human development rn your child needs!!! COLOUR!"
Yet Nattie defended her choice writing: "This is my tree in my house, and you can do what you want in yours."
