River Island Design Forum hits the shops

Jean-Pierre Braganza and River Island make fashion babies...

Sophie White

It’s the designer collaboration we’ve all been waiting for. Jean-Pierre Braganza, the infant terrible of the fashion world and former protege of designer heavyweight, Roland Mouret, and River Island one of the most sartorially evolved high street brands have gotten together in a creative union that makes us very, very happy.

What we love about the River Island designer collabs is that unlike other high street brands, River Island tend more towards burgeoning designers rather than the mainstream, established names. So while JPB isn’t necessarily as well-known as other designers it does mean that in snapping up one of his pieces at River Island this week, you could have a fashion artefact on your hands, a bit like buying Simone Rocha’s grad show or a an old sex-pistols era Vivienne Westwood t-shirt.

JPB is big into his geometric shapes, cut-outs and bold prints. There are echos of his current main line in his capsule collection for River Island with his abstract industrial-tinged prints featuring prominently. There is also a curious blend of sexy and utilitarian running through his gorgeous clothes that we love.

The boiler suit trend has been on our fashion radar for a while now, and it was a hard one to get our heads around. The boiler suit is often thought of as problematic for anyone who is not a supermodel, but we reckon we are ready to give it a lash. The great thing about a onsie is that it’s actually a pretty easy outfit option. Just add shoes, and you’re ready to rock. For these frankly, pretty fierce boiler suits we reckon nothing less than sky-high metallic stilettos will fly. And some serious attitude.

If all that sounds a bit too much like hard work, JBP has some knock-out shift dresses which also feature his mega prints and a great selection of separates from €35. Jean Pierre Braganza x River Island Design Forum is available from this Tuesday February 24.
