Following Carl Mullen’s news that he welcomed his second child with his wife Aisling, we thought we’d look back on the top five Irish baby names of the last year.
Carl announced that his daughter arrived into the world yesterday on Instagram, revealing the couple decided to name her Éala.
Clearly a name as Irish as you can get, the name comes from Éala, which is the Irish for swan.

Boys
- Rían – meaning water or ocean was in fourth place.
- Oisín – was at sixth place meaning poet or warrior in Irish folklore.
- Tadhg – meaning poet or philosopher was at number seven.
- Cillian – was at number nine, which means bright-headed.
- Fionn – meaning fair haired was at number 11.
Girls
- Fiadh – meaning wilderness or respect was in third place.
- Éabha – was at sixth place meaning life.
- Saoirse – meaning freedom was at number 18.
- Caoimhe – was at number 24, which means gentle, beautiful or precious.
- Aoife – meaning beautiful and radiant was in at number 30.
