Breaking: Reservoir search for Madeleine McCann stood down

Kat O'Connor

The search for Madeleine McCann is set to end.

In breaking news this afternoon, police have been told to stop the search for Madeleine McCann at a reservoir in Portugal.

According to The Mirror, the search is set to come to an end at 4 pm today.

A source told the publication, “The GNR has received instructions to stand down at 4 pm local time.”

Officers have been searching the reservoir since Tuesday, May 23rd. The search started on Tuesday morning, but officers will stand down today.

They had been searching for the missing girl’s pyjamas following multiple tip-offs.

Officers believe suspect Christian Brueckner visited the location days after Madeleine went missing.

Investigators were taking the search “very seriously” during the week.

Officers have never charged Christian Brueckner with her disappearance or murder but stressed that he is under investigation.

Brueckner, a convicted sex offender, is currently in prison in Germany after committing rape in 2005.

Officers believe prime suspect Christian Brueckner visited the area frequently. According to The Mirror, he used to call it his “little paradise”.

Police believe Brueckner kidnapped Madeleine McCann in May 2007. They also fear he murdered the young girl and do not expect to find her alive.
