A six year old girl in the US has been shot after she and her parents attempted to retrieve a basketball from a garden, People reports.

Robert Louis Singletary, Jr. has since been arrested in Flordia following the incident and turned himself in in North Carolina.

The man has been charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Witnesses have claimed that Singletary became agitated when his neighbour’s ball appeared in his garden and allegedly then firing his gun at a different neighbour before turning it on the six year old and her parents.

“He looked at my husband and my daughter and told them, ‘I’m going to kill you,'” Ashley Hilderbrand, the mother of 6-year-old Kinsley White, told ABC News.

Kinsley, Ashley and her partner William White were all injured in the shooting, with Kinsley getting stitches for bullet fragments lodged in her face and William remaining in hospital following more severe injuries, WSOC-TV said.

“Why did you shoot my daddy and me? Why did you shoot a kid’s dad?” Ashley told the outlet.
