The pins will also be made available to elderly people and disable people in an effort to make commuters more aware of the needs of others.
“Pregnant riders, seniors and those with disabilities often need seats more than others, but their condition may not always be visible,” Ronnie Hakim, interim executive director of the subway authority said in a statement. “We hope this campaign will help their fellow riders to be more willing to offer them a seat without having to ask a personal question first.”The initiative follows cities like London who introduced a ‘Baby on Board’ pin for pregnant women, with over 130,000 pin given out each year.
