“I couldn’t not tell her.”
RTÉ star Blathnaid Treacy has opened up about the shock her mum was in when she announced that she was expecting her first child.
The radio host is currently expecting a baby girl with her husband Charlie Moon, who they will welcome in the summer.
Speaking about her pregnancy, Blathnaid has revealed that her mum was the first person she told when she discovered she was expecting.
“I couldn’t not tell her. It is my first pregnancy, so I have no idea what is to come. Everything feels quite different, and you are going through all these changes mentally, emotionally and physically so I had to tell my mum,” she told the RTÉ Guide.
“We told her and she just burst out crying. She was so happy and then we held off on telling the rest of the family until I was three months and that was Christmas time.
“This is the 12th grandchild though. I have six siblings, but I am the baby having the baby so my mum is so excited.”

Convinced she would be having a boy because of her own family life growing up, she was a minority in thinking this as everyone else in her life knew it would be a girl – and they were right.
Blathnaid grew up with only one sister and the rest brothers, and she assumed history would repeat itself.
Now, only weeks ahead of her new arrival, Blathnaid said she is in “nesting-mode”, getting cleaning done and “going up to IKEA, picking up little bits.”
Blathnaid revealed she was pregnant earlier this year.
Alongside a series of photos of her cradling her bump, she wrote;
“We can’t wait to meet you. Our little lady arrives this summer.”
“Feeling so lucky and grateful,” she added.
