Childcare costs are set to be cut in the upcoming Budget, according to reports.
Parents can breathe a sigh of relief as the Government plans on lowering the cost of childcare in Ireland.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar confirmed they plan on making significant cuts to childcare costs.
He told The Irish Times that he is confident that the costs could be cut but not by 25%.
Varadkar said: “One of my priorities in Government is making sure that we put money back into the pockets of Irish families.”
He continued: “That can be done in a number of ways. Reducing income tax is one, and reducing the cost of childcare is another.”
“We did both in the last Budget. We intend to do both in the next Budget. There will be further reduction in the cost of childcare for families next year, you can be sure of that,” he stressed.
He stressed that the figures have not yet been finalised, but they are set to be negotiated.
“As is the case with any particular Budget matter, the figures aren’t agreed yet. That also applies to tax cuts. It applies to increases in pensions and welfare. These things have to be negotiated,” he explained.
The average family in Ireland currently pays €1,200 for childcare in Ireland. Dublin, Wicklow, and Cork are the most expensive counties in Ireland.
