There is no denying the fact that dogs are the most superior animals in existence.
They’re loyal, and down right adorable.
Honestly, the world is a better place because of dogs.
So naturally, we weren’t surprised to learn that people who own dogs are actually happier than people who own cats.
Now I’m not a cat person, so maybe I’m bias, but they just can’t be trusted.
A study was conducted from April to November last year, and the results were interesting.
According to the American General Social Survey 36 percent of dog owners reported being “very happy” while just 18 percent of cat owners said the same.
The General Social Survey also asked questions about how people interact with their pets, and the answers may also explain some of the happiness gap.
Dog owners, for instance, “are more likely to seek comfort from their pet in times of stress, more likely to play with their pet, and more likely to consider their pet a member of their family”.
So dog owners are closer to their pets, and form a tighter bond. That certainly explains the joy.
Another recent study revealed that dog owners walk an average of 870 miles a year – meaning they’re not only fitter than those with cats, but they can also benefit from improved mental health and reduced stress levels.
