So, why should you make the effort to leave your phone in another room before you attempt to head for the land of the nod?

Ellen says there are three different reasons for making the break.
Firstly, the 'blue-spectrum light' that comes from a phone screen is ridiculously distracting and has the ability to wake you up, completely, even confusing yourself that it's daytime instead of the middle of the night. Not ideal.
Secondly, messing around with apps on your phone has your brain on red alert and once that happens, you can completely forget about drifting off.
