“What if I’m an anomaly?”

Amy Huberman has opened up about struggling with doubt throughout her first pregnancy.

The actress, who shares kids Sadie, Billy and Ted with husband Brian O’Driscoll, spoke about the fears she had when she was pregnant for the first time on her daughter.

Speaking on her Mamia and Me podcast, Amy asked guests Kevin McGahern and Tony Cantwell if they had felt prepared for fatherhood, admitting that she worried she wasn’t ready to be a mother or wouldn’t like the baby.

“I remember I had this weird irrational and maybe it wasn’t irrational fear that I wasn’t going to like the kid,” she said. “I was like, ‘What if I’m an anomaly?’

“…It’s like, ‘I’m sacrificing a lot here, I hope they’re cute and deadly’… that’s just your fears compounded and denial.”

Her doubts were evidently squashed fairly quickly following the arrival of Sadie, now 8, in 2013. The couple’s first son Billy was born the following year in 2014, and Amy gave birth to Ted at the very end of last year.

The actress also spoke about how homeschooling her two older kids was a “nightmare” on top of delivering a newborn during lockdown, describing the time as “intense.”
