Katie Price’s mum, Amy Price, has come to her daughter’s defence over negative commentary about her parenting over the years.
Amy described Katie as a ‘fantastic mum’ to her five grandchildren; Junior, 18, Princess 16, Jett, 10, Bunny, 9, and Harvey, 21.
She added that cruel criticism that has been said about the mum-of-five is ‘really hurtful’ and ‘unfair’.
Speaking to Best UK magazine, Amy set the record straight about some of the things that have gone through the rumour mill about her daughter over the years.
“People say she’s a bad mum – she’s not – she’s a fantastic mum. People say she’s a drug addict – she’s not.
“I felt that stuff was really hurtful. We know what Kate is like, but I felt the way she had been portrayed was unfair. For me, I wanted to explain why she does what she does.”
She went on to clarify that the former glamour model’s ADHD plays a factor in how she fulfils her role as a mother, adding that it can make it hard for Katie to remain silent in certain situations and to be ‘impulsive’.
This is something, Amy says, that does not equate to being a bad mother.
“She’s not always logical and she can be quite impulsive – she has no filter. But now we understand it – it is just getting her to shut up!” Amy told new! magazine.
“The highs and the lows, the mood swings – but she can help herself.”
However, Katie’s mum believes her daughter has made ‘bad’ choices in her love life, adding that they’re all the same type.
Amy says she would rather see her with a ‘proper man’ rather than a ‘young, pretty boy’.
“When it comes to men, she’s made some very bad choices. In fact, we’re now at the stage where we don’t talk about the men in her life.
“To us, it’s so boring. They’re all clones of each other. We, as a family, say to her, ‘When are you going to stop going for good-looking, young, pretty boys and go for a proper man instead?
“In some ways, she’s better off being single and maybe having someone to take her out every now and then.”
The reality TV star is presently in a relationship with Carl Woods and has been married three times.
Katie was married to Peter Andre, whom she shared Junior and Princess with, from 2005 until 2009; Alex Reid from 2010 to 2011; and Kieran Hayler, who is the father of Jett and Bunny, from 2013 until 2021.
She shares her son Harvey with former footballer Dwight Yorke.
