Prince Harry has opened up about the devastating miscarriage Meghan Markle suffered in July 2020.
Meghan first confirmed the harrowing loss in a piece for the
New York Times.
Harry has now spoken about the loss in his memoir Spare.
He wrote, "The doctor walked into the room, I didn’t hear one word she said, I just watched her face, her body language. I already knew. We both did.”
The dad said he felt helpless after hearing they lost their baby.
Prince Harry and Meghan decided to bury their unborn child after the tragic loss.
He said their child fit into “a tiny package”.
"We went to a place, a secret place only we knew. Under a spreading banyan tree, while Meg wept, I dug a hole with my hands and set the tiny package softly in the ground.”
In her piece for the New York Times, Meghan said speaking out about miscarriage and baby loss is so important.
She shared, “Losing a child means carrying an almost unbearable grief, experienced by many but talked about by few.”
The mum continued, “I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child that I was losing my second,” she wrote. “Hours later, I lay in a hospital bed, holding my husband’s hand.
"I felt the clamminess of his palm and kissed his knuckles, wet from both our tears. Staring at the cold white walls, my eyes glazed over. I tried to imagine how we’d heal.”
Prince Harry and Meghan are now parents to two children- a son Archie and a daughter Lilibet.
