Erin McGregor has been praised for opening up about her son Harry

Erin McGregor has opened up about her son Harry and why she pushes him outside of his comfort zone.

Her son Harry has autism and Erin has been raising awareness and discussing the reality of it on her Instagram.

The mum and her little boy attended the St. Patrick’s Day parade on Monday, but Erin said it was too much for her little boy.

She told her followers: “Harry loves the idea of parades—the excitement, the idea of it, been with his pals—but the reality is, it’s not that simple.

“The crowds, the smells, the chaos—it overwhelms him. Yesterday, he ran into a stranger’s garden, frozen by fear. It was hard to explain to the lady who tried to help that he wasn’t running from me but couldn’t handle the outside world at that moment.”

She added, “We just couldn’t move him. I promised him I was taking him home.”

Erin explains why she pushes Harry out of his comfort zone

Erin explained that they push Harry out of his comfort zone “because I want him to have the skills to navigate a world that isn’t always understanding.”

“I must try teach him to be in situations that have crowds and noises. He wants to try. He really does.

The mum continued, “He wants to be part of it. And even though it’s hard to see him struggle, every step forward, no matter how small, is progress.”

She said she’s doing her best to teach him life skills so he can handle anything he faces in the future.

“This St. Patrick’s Day wasn’t our day, although we did get one in two years ago & he loved it, but I’m so thankful for the friends who hold my hand as we keep working towards helping him navigate this world, one step at a time.”

Her followers praised Erin for being so open and honest and for always raising autism awareness.
