The woman in her 20s was walking home when a person attacked her.

Gardaí in Cork have launched an investigation after a woman was randomly attacked.

It is believed the violent attack took place as the woman walked home in Cork’s south city centre.

The assault occurred last Saturday at 11. 30 pm, according to Gardaí.

The woman, who is believed to be in her 20s, was walking in the Evergreen Street area.

The attacker punched her numerous times.

She called for help and fought off the attacker.

It is believed the person who attacked her fled the scene on foot.

The young woman was rushed to Cork University Hospital for treatment, but her injuries are not life-threatening.

A Garda investigation has now been launched.

They’re currently examining CCTV footage.

They have yet to uncover a motive for the “nasty” attack.

The news comes after a 17-year-old girl was attacked in Kilkenny.

A man, unknown to the girl, attacked her when she was out exercising shortly after midday.

He assaulted the young woman and then fled the scene.

The attack took place at Ballyspellan, near Johnstown.

Gardaí issued a statement: “The male is best described, at this time, as a white male in his 40s with an Irish accent.

“Gardaí continue to carry out enquiries and recover CCTV from the area,” they added.

The 17-year-old girl was taken to St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny. She was treated for shock and a physical injury. However, it is not believed to be life-threatening.
