The back-to-school expenses mount up year after year but the bitterest pill of all the school accoutrements has got to be the school uniform.
The kids hate it. We hate buying it, washing it and ironing it. When it gets wet, it smells like a wet dog. The phrase "they grow up so fast" takes on a distinctly accusatory tone when we have to replace the bloody school trousers EVERY year.
As a child, I often felt personally persecuted when faced with my mother's ire at my annual Summer growth spurt.
