The actress spent a lot of time trying to please everyone else rather than focusing on what she wanted.
She said she was "always sort of outsourcing that and not giving myself like the dignity of being close to myself.”
"When I look back, you know, I was really a kid – like really more so than a lot of 22 or 23 or 24 years olds I would meet now," she said.
“I was totally heartbroken when we broke up, but it was just the right thing at that time. But it was really hard.”
The Iron Man star said she hadn't explored who she really was.
She added that she hadn't discovered what her boundaries were or found out who she truly was.
Paltrow married singer Chris Martin in 2003 but divorced in 2016. She later married producer Brad Falchuk in 2018.
