Doubts over the future of Dancing With The Series as RTÉ ‘goes quiet’

'Things are very strange at the moment.'

Could Dancing With The Stars be no more?

With three successful series of the show under its belt, it seems like a no-brainer for RTÉ to bring it back again next January.

But a new report suggests that DWTS‘s future is very much up in the air.

RTÉ stopped talks about next year’s show a few weeks ago, according to a source at the station.

Though it is keen to make another series, the source said, it may not be able to afford it.

“We are always hopeful but things are very strange in RTÉ at the moment,” the insider told The Irish Sun.

“It’s the quietest we’ve ever known it to be.

“It’s possible RTÉ do want the show back but just don’t have the money.”

The station is “running out of cash”, the source continued, and may have to cut other projects to save DWTS.

“They will need to find the budget from other shows in their schedule, which may disappear.

“In the meantime, we can’t book pro dancers, rent studios or switch on the lights until we get a contract to do DWTS.

In a statement, RTÉ has said that it is “working on” bringing back the hit celebrity dance competition.

It’s thought that the delay in a decision means host Nicky Byrne hasn’t been signed up for an upcoming series.

Though he’s currently touring with Westlife, it’s reported that the singer and broadcaster has assured producers that he’s up for presenting the show again.
