A healthy baby boy was born on the side of the M7.

Two Gardaí have been praised after they helped deliver a baby boy on the side of the M7.

Garda Richard Oxley and Garda Sean Smyth assisted a heavily pregnant woman who was in labour.

Both Gardaí were working at Naas Garda Station last Wednesday, March 8th when they got the call.

The couple was travelling from Carlow to Dublin when the woman’s contractions started to get closer.

They were just a minute apart when the Gardaí arrived at the scene.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed that the two men “kicked into action to keep mother and baby safe” once they located the couple on the M7.

The new mum gave birth to a healthy baby boy just as the ambulance arrived.

“The heavily pregnant woman was in labour and her contractions were now a minute apart.

“Once the couple was located, Garda Oxley and Garda Smyth kicked into action to keep mother and baby safe and provided urgent medical assistance.”

Both Gardaí have been praised for helping the mum during what was such a distressing time.

Huge congratulations to the mum on her son’s safe arrival.
