It has been confirmed that the Leaving Cert marking system will change this year

It’s about time, tbh.

For years now, there has been numerous problems with the Leaving Certificate marking system.

Between appeals and the length of time it actually takes to complete, students are left in the lurch to find out what their points are.

According to the Irish Independent, the Leaving Cert will make the move to online marking this summer, with the move being sped up after the successful High Court Action last year taken by Leaving Cert student Rebecca Carter.

Rebecca argued that because of the length of time it took to receive her appeal, it forced her to delay entry to her top CAO course choice, veterinary medicine, for a year.

This has happened to many students over the years, and we’re sure you know of one who had to delay going to college because of an appeal.

From this year, the Leaving Cert results will be released a day earlier than last year, and appeals will be delivered on September 16 rather than October 10.

The State Examinations Commission said that the move online will bring greater efficiency to the examiner and will allow them to focus on the marking process and not on administrative tasks.
