The couple may have been dead for 18 months.
The couple found dead in their Tipperary home have been identified as Nicholas (Nick) and Hilary Smith.
According to The Irish Mirror, the Smiths were very private people.
Earlier this week, Gardaí discovered their bodies, but they believe the couple has been dead for a "considerable" period of time.
Neighbours alerted the Gardaí after growing concerned for the couple, who were both in their late 70s.
It is believed their car was at the back of the property, but nobody had seen them since 2020.
Many locals believed the couple had moved away.
They had not seen Mr. and Mrs Smith in quite some time but believed they had moved back to England during the pandemic.
However, Gardaí stated that the couple could have been lying undiscovered for at least a year.
It is believed they moved from the UK to Cloneen around five years ago.
Locals said they kept to themselves and were very private.
Following their tragic deaths, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said it is a "terrible situation".
He also urged the public to keep an eye on one another, especially their older neighbours.
"Obviously I think communities across the country generally do keep an eye out for their neighbours and there are many different organisations and networks that do that.
“And of course, we have to continue to do that and be vigilant in terms of looking after neighbours, particularly the elderly and vulnerable neighbours who may need help and support."
The couple's cause of death has not been disclosed, but foul play has reportedly been ruled out.
Gardaí investigating their deaths will also check if the couple died from Covid-19.
