The two boys got into trouble when swimming in Malahide on Tuesday evening.
Two teenage boys were rescued from a buoy after getting into difficulty swimming. Members of the public contacted emergency services when they spotted the boys in distress, but an off-duty member of the Howth Coast Guard was the one who rescued the two boys.
They were passing the buoy when they noticed the two males in distress. The teenagers were safely removed from the water and dropped ashore. They required no medical attention following the incident.
The incident happened in Malahide on Tuesday, May 30th.
The RNLI issued a warning to the public following the incident. They have urged the public to be extremely cautious during the summer months, especially when out at sea.
"As the summer weather takes hold, and more people are heading out on the water, we have some helpful guidance for boat owners.
"Ensure you have undergone the right training so that you can develop your skills to be prepared for when things go wrong," they shared.
They also warned the public to take time to ensure their engine is well maintained.
"If you do get into difficulty make sure you have an anchor on board and a means of calling for help."
The volunteer lifeboat crew is on call 24/7. If you get into difficulty or you see someone in trouble call 999/112 and ask for the Coast Guard.
