Just a few weeks remain for getting applications in for the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance (BSCFA).
The scheme opened in June 2023, and will stop taking applications on September 30th, 2023. Many families are paid automatically by the BSCFA, and if this applies to your family, there is no need to apply again. The Department of Social Protection will have notified these families either through their MyWelfare account or by post in early June. If you are not being paid automatically, you are able to apply for the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance before the end of September online at MyWelfare.ie. If you have already applied for a social welfare payment but are waiting for a decision on your application or have appealed a decision not to award you a social welfare payment, you should also apply for the BSCFA before the scheme closes. It's worth noting that you cannot appeal a decision on your BSCFA application to the Social Welfare Appeals Office. However, if you are unhappy with the decision on your BSCFA application, a letter can be written addressed to the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance Review Section (address below) stating the reasons why you believe the decision was incorrect and requesting it be reviewed within 21 days of getting your decision.
