The big day is fast approaching.
There's been plenty of talk about Pippa Middleton's wedding recently with reports suggesting she will marry multi-millionaire James Matthews, hedge fund manager, and former pro racing driver, on May 20.
Everyone's speculating about what type of dress she will wear and who's on the guest list but now, concerns have been raised about the diet Pippa is reportedly following in the run-up to her wedding.
According to
E! News, the 33-year-old is a fan of the Sirtfood diet which concentrates on 20 foods, that help to speed up your metabolism and burn fat.
These foods include strawberries, kale, arugula, red wine, cocoa, walnuts and coffee which all sounds grand until you get to the bit about restricted calories.
The premise is that a person should consume 1,000 calories for the first three days and for the rest of the week, the intake is upped to 1,500.
Next follows a 'maintenance' phase where you eat three 'Sirt Food' meals and one juice a day and although cutting calories might mean losing weight initially, the fact is it's not sustainable.
In conversation with
The Cut, Brigette Zeitlin voiced her concerns about this particular diet.
"It’s unhealthy and unsafe to eat below 1,200 calories a day.
"In addition to not giving yourself the proper energy and nutrients you need each day you’re on this fad diet, eventually you’re going to go off of it. You’re going to gain all of the weight you lost back, and more often than not, you’re going to gain even more weight back".
Zeitlin says it's by far better to follow a balanced diet, upping fruit, vegetables, and lean protein intake because fad diets aren't worth it in the long run.
"Extreme diets like this don’t work. Most brides usually burn out on them, and they get incredibly cranky because they’re starving themselves. At a time when you’re already incredibly stressed out, the last thing you need to do is add in the stressful factor of not eating properly".
