Study reveals that a lot of people NEVER wash their gym clothes

Olivia Hayes

This is quite disturbing.

While making a resolution to go to the gym is all well and good, you need to not fall into bad habits while doing so.

However, a study has revealed that some people don’t wash themselves straight after working out and many never pop their gym clothes in the washing machine – ever.

The study was conducted by Tap Warehouse, and it revealed just how bad some gym-goers post-workout personal hygiene really is.

According to the statistics, 22 percent of people wait longer than an hour to shower after the gym which can leave them open to fungal infections.

Dr Asif Munaf, from Endorance, said: “People should aim to shower within an hour [otherwise] bacterial and fungal infections can spread in damp conditions, such as on sweaty clothes and in-between the toes – as is the case with athlete’s foot.”

Another statistic found that 44 percent of people wear them gym clothes more than once when working out, while 10 percent have never washed their workout gear – not even once.

Dr Abigail Short from Bark.com, told researchers: “Gym clothes harbour lots of bacteria due to sweat” and “touching fitness machines, wiping your sweaty hand on your t-shirt or sharing a barbell can transfer germs” so you’re better off washing your gym clothes after every workout.

Basically, just be clean, yeah? You can read more about the statistics here and if you fancy buying some fresh gym clothes, Penneys has gorgeous – and affordable – bits in at the moment.
