According to a study reported on Metro, the chunkier among us are not only more generously proportioned but also more generous in spirit.
Ergo thinner people are more likely to be stingy. Way harsh.
The research carried out by a German team, required 20 large men all weighing on average about 19 stone and 20 thin men (average weight about 11 stone) to play games in a controlled environment. The games demanded that they give others money.
Findings showed that ‘lean men made less fair decisions and offered 16 per cent less money than corpulent men.'
Interestingly, thin people were inclined to be more generous to other thin people, and researchers found that their mood was more affected by low blood sugar levels, meaning not only were they stingier than their chubbier peers but also crankier.
"Our data shows that economic decision-making is affected by both, the body weight of the participants and the body weight of their opponents, and that blood glucose concentrations should be taken into consideration when analyzing economic decision making," concluded the researchers.
I'll certainly be bearing this study in mind the next time my mother decides to make a pass remarkable comment about my weight!
Of course I could also take a leaf out of our awesome guest blogger's book...
