A 12-year-old boy had a lucky escape after he fell into a frozen pond in Dundee, Michigan.

The young boy’s life was saved by some incredible heroes, including a policeman and a truck driver.

Both Jonathan Garza and Dundee Police Department Officer, Joe Schumaker, happened to be in the area at the time of the incident.

Just before 9:00 am, the 12-year-old boy was spotted falling into the frozen water in Dundee.

Garza was nearby when he spotted the horrifying incident happen. His parenting instincts kicked in and he rushed to save the boy, who was trapped in the ice-cold water.

He told ABC Detroit that the young boy was “screaming for help, screaming for bloody murder”.

He quickly phoned for help after realising just how much danger the boy was in.

“Immediately, I just went into parent mode. I have a young daughter, so I just immediately thought how I would feel, so I got on the phone with 911 as quickly as possible,” he shared.

Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene, but police officer Joe Schumaker said his instincts took over.

He decided to try to reach the boy by crawling out to him with a life buoy.

“I didn’t know how long he had been in the water. I would have hated to stand there and watch him go down,” he admitted.

He continued: “I just went there, got on my belly, and started crawling for him.”

However, the officer then fell through the ice but managed to give the ring to the boy so he could pull himself out of the water.

Emergency services and other heroes quickly helped the pair out of the water.

The 12-year-old boy was reunited with his parents following the incident.

Both heroes were praised by the public following their heroic acts.

A little bit of good news goes a long way.
