Two kids toys sold in Penneys recalled over choking risk after thousands sold in Ireland

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has recalled two items sold in the kids section of Penneys after thousands were sold.

A pair of shakers and a set of maracas were recalled last week over a major safety issue with potential choking.

There have been a total of 7,977 items sold in the Republic of Ireland between these two recall notices.

Here’s everything you need to know:

Shakers

Primark Limited (t/a Penneys) is carrying out a recall of Primark Wooden Music Shaker.

The risk reported to the CCPC is that of choking. The bottom part of the handle of the rattle may become detached causing small parts. 

If a child puts the small part in their mouth, it can block airways and cause choking.

The brand is Primark and the type/number of model is 7495201. The barcode is 539725409372 but the batch number is unknown.

There are approximately 6,438 affected products in the Republic of Ireland.

Maracas

Primark Limited (t/a Penneys) is carrying out a recall of Primark DTR M&M Maracas.

The risk reported to the CCPC is that of choking. The bottom part of the handle of the rattle may become detached causing small parts.

If a child puts the small part in their mouth, it can block airways and cause choking.

The brand is Primark and the type/number of model is 5311101. The barcode is 5397256182242, but the batch number is unknown.

There are approximately 1,539 affected products in the Republic of Ireland.

What to do:

If you believe that you may have purchased either affected products mentioned above, discontinue use immediately and keep it out of the reach of children.

If you have purchased this product then please return it to any Penneys/Primark store where you will be offered a full refund.
