A man was arrested a short time later.
A youth was stabbed during an early morning assault that occurred in Waterford on Wednesday (29 June).
In a statement to JOE, Gardaà said they attended the scene of the assault in Ballybeg at around 1.30am.
They stated that a youth was taken to Waterford University Hospital with a stab wound.
A short time later, a 40-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.
He was taken to Waterford Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 4 of Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
