“There are days I’m debilitated to the point where I can barely move.”

In a recent interview with People, Alanis Morissette opened up about her struggle with postpartum depression after giving birth to her daughter Onyx.

She discussed how she felt symptoms of postpartum depression after both pregnancies, firstly with her son in 2010 and then with her daughter in 2016. However, scared to get help, it took the singer over a year before she finally felt ready to speak to a doctor.

“I was devastated and it had me questioning my identity. It had me question everything. I’ve known myself to be a really incredible decision-maker and a leader that people can rely on. she added, discussing the emotional withdrawal the illness has caused her. Explaining how it has negatively impacted her mind, the 43-year-old said now “I can barely decide what to eat for dinner.”

When her second child was born, Alanis described the symptoms as coming back “four times worse” which caused her serious upset and distress revealing that she thinks, “where’s the old Alanis? Well, she’s in here. She’s having a minute. I know that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel and try not to beat myself up.”
