Benedict Cumberbatch’s baby boy has some interesting initials

Katie Mythen-Lynch

They welcomed their first child in June, but Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch and his theatre and opera director wife have only just gotten around to sharing their firstborn’s name with fans.

Benedict (38) and Sophie (37) have called their baby boy Christopher Carlton Cumberbatch.

The tot, who arrived on June 1 at the swanky Portland Hospital in London’s Westminster, shares a first name with the character his dad played in the television adaptation of Parade’s End, while the middle name is another nod to the family tree- both Benedict and his own father Timothy share the middle name Carlton.
Speaking to a magazine in 2013, the actor, who is an only child, said he was looking forward to becoming a dad:

‘I was happy as an only child, but I’ve always wanted to be part of a bigger family.” he said.
