"I don't want to deprive her of something she wants"
Coco Austin has revealed she still breastfeeds her 5-year-old daughter Chanel because it is a great way for them to bond. The mum explained her decision in an interview with US Weekly.
She said her daughter still eats solid foods, but she has breastmilk as "a little snack every now and then".
She said she sees no harm in breastfeeding her little girl and the opinions of others are not going to make her change her ways.
"Chanel still likes my boob. She's 5 years old. A lot of people are like, 'Oh, you're not getting the nutrition after 2 years old. Why do it?' And I'm like, My child's eating steak and hamburgers. She just likes a little snack every now and then and more of the bonding between the mother."
"Why take that away from her?" she asked.
"She loves on it and it's not like she's getting milk from it, but she's getting her little snack and it's kind of soothing her to sleep," the mum added.
"I don't want to deprive her of something she wants just because society says you need to stop after 2," she shared.
Experts say there is no specific age when you should stop breastfeeding so what harm is Coco doing?
Every mum is different and will know when the time has come to stop breastfeeding. If it makes Coco and her little girl feel connected then leave them to it.
