Eight in 10 Irish parents feel pressure to buy screen devices this Christmas

New research from Yoto reveals that screen time is a growing concern for parents in Ireland.

According to the study, 86% of parents worry about the impact of screen time on their children’s health and development, with nearly half (48%) saying they have significant concerns about both short and long-term consequences.

Parents are particularly anxious about how screens affect children’s ability to focus, engage in creative play, and develop essential social skills.

Despite these concerns, a staggering 80% of parents feel pressured to buy screen-led devices for their children this Christmas.

Then there are 65% of parents feel there are insufficient screen-free options available for kids, leaving many struggling to find suitable alternatives that foster imagination and creativity.

Yoto offers a screen-free solution that alleviates parents’ concerns while promoting creativity and independent play.

Inspired by Montessori principles, Yoto devices encourage children as young as three to engage with storytelling, music, and educational content.

With over 1,000 Yoto cards available, children can independently select and explore age-appropriate audio content, including audiobooks, music albums, podcasts, and original stories.

Unlike screen-based devices, Yoto products prioritise tactile engagement, helping to build confidence and curiosity without overstimulation.

Yoto Co-founder and CEO Ben Drury explained the company’s mission:  “We understand how challenging it can be to manage screen time, and we recognise the growing concerns about its long-term effects on children.

“We founded Yoto to provide something that not only eases these worries but also helps to spark imagination and creativity through the best audio for kids.

“Our goal is to let kids be kids, encouraging their independence whilst also fostering their natural curiosity.”
