But he had a very creative solution.

Fearne Cotton's young son was left "very concerned" after he made a recent discovery about his mum. The television presenter recently recalled how four-year-old Rex was worried after finding out that she didn't have a middle name - going as far as asking her to ring his grandad, her father, to "discuss it". And while he waited for a "resolution" to the situation, the little boy was happy to give his mum a new middle name: Butterfly. https://twitter.com/Fearnecotton/status/937229660831780864 Fearne explained on Twitter:

"Rex seems very concerned I don’t have a middle name. "He has asked me to call ‘grandad’ ( my dad) to discuss it and has also bestowed me the new title of Fearne Butterfly Wood (he has no idea I used to be a Cotton)."

Plenty of her social media followers were quick to offer up their own tales of children confused by a  lack of middle names. One person said:

"My kids gave my dad the middle name Oglethorpe as he didn’t have one."

Another added:

"Same for my wife, kids thought was outrageous and mean of grandma so they called her Harriet after the massive pig at the local petting farm"

But others could sympathise with Rex's confusion over the matter. One social media user said:

"Always wondered as a child why my parents didn't have a middle name and thus why I never had one. "I completely understand where Rex is coming from."
