Game of Thrones inspires Medieval baby names (and 8 of them aren’t half bad)

213 newborns were given the name 'Khaleesi'

The second episode of Game of Thrones Season Five hits TV screens this Sunday, and if Stateside trends are to be followed here, we can expect some medieval baby names inspired by the HBO fantasy.

We’re not for a second suggesting that Tyrion is going to be replacing Jack in the Irish top ten any time soon, but pop culture has been known to inspire a new parent or two.

According to FindTheBest research, there’s been a spike in the number of babies names after Game of Thrones characters every year the show has gained in popularity.

In 2013, a total of 1,315 US babies were named after the show’s ultimate bad ass ‘Arya’ Stark. A whopping 213 newborns were given the name ‘Khaleesi’ in the same year, while 11 boys were given the dubious moniker ‘Bran’.

A further 11 were called ‘Theon’ and 21 misfortunate youngsters were even called ‘Daenerys’.

In honour of Series Five, here’s our list of the top eight Game of Thrones baby names we actually quite like…

1. Arya

2. Jon

3. Khal

4. Catelyn

5. Ilyn

6. Shae

7. Ellaria

8. Tommen
