Here are my Top Tips to surviving Graduation Day:
1. Sleep
Get as much sleep as humanly possible the night before. A tired mammy is an emotional one. Your main aim is to be strong enough to get through the day without a total breakdown in the classroom.
2. Calm Yourself
Do whatever you need to keep yourself chill - don't overdo it on the coffee, put a few drops of Rescue Remedy under your tongue, get some fresh air and exercise, take deep breaths! Try to be the most relaxed version of yourself that you can possibly be when you walk into that school.
3. Plan To Take A Distraction Along
My distraction on the day will be my two-year-old daughter. She requires so much minding and attention that surely there'll be no room left for bawling.
4. Avoid All Rehearsals
Out of the blue recently, my son started to perform his graduation song for me: 'It's Graduation Day and we are here to say, goodbye to our teachers and..' I love my son and I love his little songs but I was NOT prepared for that one. As I mumbled something about needing to clean the toilets, I ran from the room at high speed. (YES, crying).
5. Eat Cake
It's very difficult to cry while stuffing fistfuls of cake into your face. Buy, bake or steal some delicious cupcakes and whenever you feel a little outburst coming on, take a big bite and concentrate on that frosting. Which is no way should be the colour of a baby blanket, booties, babygro, buggy or any of their baby toys..
Good luck, mammas!
