‘Jingle Baskets’ – One mum’s cheap and cheerful idea to keep kids entertained over Christmas

Jody Coffey

December is usually the busiest time of year for parents.

One mum has shared her incredible cost-effective ‘Jingle Baskets’ idea to ensure the kids are kept busy to free up some time for parents while they’re off at Christmas.

With heavier workloads, Christmas festivities, and the kids being off school, there is little downtime during this time of year.

However, it shouldn’t mean mums and dads don’t get any relaxation time.

TikTok user, Lauren (@hellolaurenashley) is a mom of three and has gained the experience of keeping little ones entertained.

The mum’s account is dedicated to motherhood, including tips, tricks, hacks, recipes, and routines.

Her Christmas-themed idea comes in the form of ‘Jingle baskets’, which she gives them every December.

These nifty little baskets also make a great stocking filler or additional gift on Christmas morning at little cost.

This post focused on something very festive: “Jingle baskets for my kids to give them on December 1st,” she said.

@hellolaurenashley Jingle baskets 🎄🎅🏻for my kids to give them on December 1st! The dollar tree had SO many fun things for the kids. So many crafts and activities! I found the cute Santa buckets from there as well and just knew I had to make them a cute holiday basket. The cups and plates are $3 from target, the pjs are on sale for $8 and SO SOFT!!! and blanket is from target too. Everything else – run to your dollar tree!! 🎄🎅🏻 #christmas #jinglebaskets #holidaybaskets #december1stbox #christmastradition #jinglebasket #december1st #dollartree #dollartreechristmas #christmas #momof3 #momhacks #momtradition #christmasboxes #christmasbox ♬ original sound – Lauren | mom of 3 🤍

Lauren’s idea involves purchasing a basket from her local dollar store and stocking them with crafts, activities, and various items.

“I found the cute Santa buckets from [Dollar Tree] and I just knew I had to make them a cute holiday basket,” she says.

“These are all things that I would have given them throughout the season anyway. So I thought why not make a cute little basket?” she adds.

The mum-of-three held up the full basket which was filled with a variety of other low cost gifts.

“I got them a ton of colouring books and crafts, and some hot cocoa,” she shares, showing just a few of the items she purchased.

“I’m so excited to give it to them. I also love the buckets. Because I feel like they’re going to use them throughout the season.”

The beauty of ‘Jingle Baskets’ are that they can be filled with numerous affordable and creative items unique to your child’s personality.

Heading out of your local Euro shop, a second-hand shop, or even with items around your home can fill a basket of endless entertainment for your kids over the holidays.

It also makes for a super cute Christmas tradition.
