Mums and dads will agree with Kate Middleton’s parenting technique

Cathy Donohue

A hugely beneficial hobby for all the family.

As royal fans may be aware, Kate Middleton recently co-designed a garden for the Chelsea Flower Show and brought her children to see her handiwork.

At the time, Kate spoke about how important it is for children to play outside, experiencing and engaging with nature with the Duchess maintaining that this can improve emotional wellbeing.

The mum of three explained:

“I really feel that nature and being interactive outdoors has huge benefits on our physical and mental wellbeing, particularly for young children”.

This week, she reinforced that message again and explained how she encourages her children to play outdoors, regardless of the weather.

Kate Middleton appeared on an episode of Blue Peter alongside presenter Lindsey Russell and a group of schoolchildren, with pond dipping one of the activities on the menu.

As you’ll see in the Instagram post below, Kate chatted to the kids about tadpoles evolving into frogs and you can see that she’s a big fan of these type of excursions.

The Duchess of Cambridge has joined forces with the longest running children’s TV programme in the world, @CBBC’s Blue Peter, to launch a special competition that asks viewers to design a sculpture to go into The Duchess’s Back to Nature garden when it arrives at @RHSWisley in September. The competition will launch on @CBBC at 5.30pm on Thursday 13th June with a special film that The Duchess made with local school children at Westminster City Council’s Paddington Recreation Ground, where she gets stuck in with pond dipping, planting and team den building with local children and Blue Peter presenter @LindseyJRussell. The Duchess also spoke about why “rain or shine”, she will bring George, Charlotte and Louis out for some fresh air.

“It encourages creativity, confidence and even a short amount of time – 10 or 15 minutes – makes a huge difference to physical wellbeing but also to our mental wellbeing”.

Sounds like a parenting method that many will agree with and although the weather doesn’t exactly behave itself, it’s worth making the effort to get outside where possible.
