Music to archery: there’s a massive family event happening this weekend in Portlaoise

Fancy going on a trip back in time?

This amazing event in Portlaoise is set to be a fantastic time for children and parents alike, with three days of thrilling activities.

I went to Dublinia as a kid but this event takes the medieval experience to the next level and well worth a trip to one of the most historical towns in Ireland.

Happening this weekend from June 22 to 24, it’s a medieval heritage festival with something for everyone.

Now in its third year, The Old Fort Quarter Festival celebrates the heritage of the Old Fort of Maryborough in Portlaoise.

Thousands of attendees are expected to descend on Portlaoise this weekend and with all of the activities that they have lined up, it’s not hard to see why.

With medieval heritage, two music stages, a comic book convention, an artisan food market and for the first time ever a dedicated comedy stage, there’s no end of things for the family to do.

Many of the events including archery, shield making and other crafts, are free-to-attend and spaces will be filled on a first-come basis so if you want a taste of old-school Ireland you’ll need to get there early.

If you would like to find out more about Old Fort Quarter or the events happening this weekend you can visit them on their website or over on their Facebook page.
