Do you allow your young children to use the internet?

TV presenter Stacey Solomon has decided not to allow her children online anymore and her reason is one that a lot of parents will understand.

The mum of two said she doesn’t let her kids use the internet as she’s afraid of who they could be interacting with.

Speaking to the Daily Express Stacey said;

“I don’t allow my kids to go online. It scares me to think that they could be talking to anyone. When you meet someone online you don;t know who they are, where they’re from or what their intentions are. They’ll probably grow up and be like my mum is so strict” Stacey said

Solomon who has two young boys, aged ten and six, is not alone in her concerns about who her children may end up speaking to online.

Recently there has been controversy over anonymous online games and chatrooms where young teens and children have been groomed by predators.

My husband and I would be very into technology, but even so, we still worry about what our son might accidentally access online.

You can put every safeguard in place but it still very difficult when you continue to read horror stories from other parents every day.

Solomon added that her own negative experiences online helped her come to the decision that her children would be safer away from the web.

With more and more teens suffering at the hands of cyberbullying and trolls on a daily basis I can’t help but see her point of view.

Social media was in its infancy when I was a teenager but I still came into contact with cyber bullies so I can’t imagine what modern-day teens are up against.

Having worked with mental health charity, ReachOut, many of the teenagers I’ve spoken to have said the worse thing about bullying now is that it doesn’t stop at school, the bullies can now follow you home via social media.

With more emphasis being placed on technology every year it’s a harder battle for parents now than ever before to make sure that their children are safe online.

Do you agree with Stacey or do you think the pros of the internet outway the cons?
