I don't know about you, but I have a running commentary going through my head that sometimes reaches my mouth and spills over into 'out loud'. I have recently caught myself muttering about "the state of the fridge" and "I must get that shelf organised" and "where did that new Lego come from?!" under my breath as I potter about the house. Last night, I found myself applying fake tan in relative darkness in the upstairs hall of my house because I didn't want to turn on a light and wake anyone up. "There Was A Time When This Was Much Easier" I mumbled out loud and then stopped myself. There WAS a time when LOADS of things were different before we had kids - good and bad - but would I change any of it? Hardly. "There Was A Time When..." There was a time when days were endless When the floors were squeaky clean There was a time when high heels ruled my life When my nails were polished, pristine There was a time when nights were for partying Drinking wine and chatting until dawn There was a time when Sunday papers were read Back to back - that day! - until they were gone There was a time when leaving the house each day Didn't require a master plan When a weekly grocery shop Didn't require loading up a van There was a time when going on holiday Was a simple 'You and me' When a weekend down the country Wasn't laden down with cots and buggies There was a time when we shared a bed Alone, wrapped in each others arms When we slept right through 'til morning Roused by plugged-in alarms There was a time when our house was empty We tried to fill it with stuff from Ikea But then we filled it with children And that was a much better idea.
