ATMOSPHERIC NAMES

Rain is a personal favourite

As we are now in a new year, it makes sense that new trends come with it.

This extends to the naming process, as there are a host of new trends predicted to influence the monikers of the babies of tomorrow.

Atmospheric baby names are just one of those trends that are about to take off, and it is anticipated that they will be particularly popular with younger parents.

Names that fall under this category are ones inspired by the elements, the weather, and the ephemeral and ever-changing nature of both, much like the world we live in and, likely, the future generation of people with these names.

Nameberry, the world’s largest website devoted to baby names, says atmospheric names are ‘designed to soar with the people who bear them and perhaps evaporate in 15 or 20 years’ if the name bearer opts to change it.

This, it says, is ‘a possibility today’s parents accept,’ as ‘young Millennial and Gen Z parents understand that existence is as transient as a Snap or Instagram Story.’
