The list of 2023’s most popular monikers has landed and one underdog girl’s name has made its way onto the top 100 list for the first time ever.
Unsurprisingly, trending baby girl names such as Olivia, Amelia, and Isla all made their way into the top three, having risen in popularity over the years.
However, one lesser-known name shot straight to number 75, having never featured on the list before.
This report was curated by Baby Centre, which analysed the data and numbers of expecting parents’ moniker choices.
The research was able to pinpoint that the name Lyra is starting to become a favourite among new mums and dads when naming their daughters.
While the name’s popularity has been up and down since 2003, data shows that 2023 was the best year yet for the moniker Lyra.
The name is of Greek and Latin origin and refers to the constellation in the north sky, home to the ‘Vega’ star.
Lyra has also made its mark on the celebrity world as Ed Sheeran and his partner, Cherry Seaborn, welcomed a daughter with this name in 2020.
Back in 2011, author and model, Sophie Dahl, and her husband, Jamie Cullum, named their daughter Lyra too.
While the number of girls with the name is beginning to grow, it remains relatively unique, for now.
