Meghan Markle plans to ‘follow royal tradition’ for the birth of her first child

Meghan Markle has reportedly decided to “follow royal tradition” for the birth of her and Prince Harry’s first child.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are due to welcome their little boy or girl in just a few weeks time.

Up to now it was rumoured that Meghan would choose to have her baby outside of London, given that she and Prince Harry are moving to Windsor to raise their child.

Frimley Park, a hospital in Surrey, had been tipped as the place the couple would choose.

There also had been “some talk” of Meghan opting for a home birth – although since it is her first child, doctors would likely advise her to give birth at the hospital.

However, a royal insider told The Evening Standard that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have decided the Lindo Wing of London’s St Mary’s hospital is the “superior choice”.

They explained:

“Having weighed up the options, and in acknowledgement of its place in royal tradition, they consider it the superior choice.”

The hospital has been favoured for royal births for decades.

Princess Diana had both William and Harry in the Lindo Wing and Kate Middleton also welcomed each of her three children there.

Even Kate’s sister Pippa chose to have her first baby there last year.

The news comes a few weeks after it was reported staff members in the Lindo Wing had been asked not to take annual leave in April.

An insider told The Telegraph:

“Staff at the Lindo Wing have been asked not to take holiday in April.

“Everyone thinks it’s got something to do with the royal baby but no one is confirming anything.”
