Clean eats: 3 low-cal, high-fibre smoothies AND juices

Start the week as you mean to go on...

HerFamily

I’m not advocating a full-on liquid breakfast every day but, if your week starts without even a crumb of toast between Monday and Wednesday then, listen up: Meet your sister and take [her] advice on this weeks menu. These options taste deceivingly good and the prep-time is under five minutes.

Wake up feeling positive when you have one of these to look forward to:

1. Minty-green juice

For this, you’ll need a juicer. Greens are an excellent source of magnesium, and potassium for that morning boost.

5 apples cored & chopped

3 cups spinach

4 celery stalks

2 cups of mint leaves

1 lime, peeled

3 ice cubes

1 scoop of Chlorophyll or Moringa powder can be used for an antioxidant hit (to be added when blending, not to be used when pregnant or nursing)

Freeze: Divide 3 portions, evenly. Blend immediately or pop into a bag or container.

2. Carrot and beet juice

Use a juicer for this one. Carrot and beetroot are superb to increase blood flow to the brain. Goodbye brain-freeze.

5 washed, peeled and diced carrots

3 trimmed, peeled and quartered fresh beets (not from a jar)

3 cm piece of fresh ginger

3 ice cubes

Stir to combine

Freeze: Divide 3 portions, evenly. Blend immediately or pop into a bag or container.

3. Berry smoothie

Use the Nutribullet or your blender for this recipe. These super-fruits are great for the heart. Perfect for brekkie or dessert.

3 cups of coconut/filtered water or coconut milk

3 tbsp of almond butter and a couple of whole almonds

3 cups of frozen/fresh mixed berries

3 cubes of ice

3 tbsp of UDO’s Oil (to be added when blending)

Freeze: Divide 3 portions, evenly. Blend immediately or pop into a bag or container.

Any leftovers?

If you have made extra smoothie mixture, just make popsicles. You can buy DIY packs from Ikea and make multi-coloured treats with any smoothie flavour. Absolute yum-ness.
