Put down the coffee, THIS is the green smoothie you should start your day with

Trine Jensen-Burke

While we have all been busy with the seemingly endless love affair with kale of late, it turns out we might have slightly overlooked the AMAZING health benefits of other green things.

Did you know kiwis have the highest nutritional density of any fruit? That’s right. This little powerhouse is choc-a-block with vitamins, antioxidants, minerals and other essential elements, and if you eat them regularly, you will no doubt notice improvement in your health, skin, hair and even nails.

Kiwifruits are also a great source of fibre and its low glycemic index means it will not push sugar into your blood stream like other fruit with high sugar content. Kiwis also work as a pre-biotic for your gut, stimulating the favourable growth of probiotic bacteria in the gut and help rebuild the natural levels of good bacteria that your body needs. A good supply of probiotics in the gut will boost your immune system, enhance digestion and reduce digestive disorders.

So what are you waiting for?! Get some kiwifruit into you pronto – and just wait for all the benefits to kick in. This smoothie is a great way to start you day, the goodness of it will nourish your body with vitality. It keeps for 1-2 days in the fridge if you put a lid on it, and if you fancy a little more sweetness, just add a splash of apple juice.
